Jeanne Morrissey takes the win in sudden death playoff at the Ruth Raymond Jones Memorial Seniors’ Championship

KILLINGTON — On July 15 and 16 Green Mountain National Golf Course hosted a 36 hole stroke play tournament with a field of 100 players of age 55 and older. Jeanne Morrissey of Williston won the Ruth Raymond Jones Memorial Seniors’ Championship at Green Mountain National in a sudden death playoff over Margie Kaat of Ekwanok.

In the second playoff hole, Margie Kaat’s drive came to rest in an unfortunate lie in a fairway bunker. Eventually, that left Morrissey with needing only two putts from 15 feet to win the tournament.

Jeanne Morrissey’s rounds were 76-83 for a 159 total.  Margie Kaat’s scores were 79-80 for a 159 total. Mary Jane Shomo of Rutland and Cynthia Borck of Stowe were tied for third place with scores of 167.  Sheila Darrah of Copley was fifth at 171 while Pam Cruickshank of the host Green Mountain National club was sixth at 173. Cindy Paquet of Essex and Trish Wade of Green Mountain National were tied for 7th at 174. Kathy Allbright of Green Mountain National was 9th at 175.  Patti Haas of Killington and Pam Engel of Dorset were tied for 10th at 176.

Nancy Gorham-LaSante of Bellows Falls won the net championship with a net total of 133, two strokes better than Cecile Sayah of Killington. Jayne Magnant of Orleans was third with a 138.  Carolyn Marshall of West Bolton and Josie Herrera of Vermont National were tied for fourth at 141.  Lois Dolan of Williston was sixth at 142 while Lois Forrester of Brattleboro, Mary Beth Menduni of Green Mountain, and Sarah Lee of Equinox were tied for seventh at 143.  Marilyn Cassidy of Brattleboro and Marilyn Trepenier of Prospect Point were tied for 10th net at 44.

Cynthia Borck was the Super Senior winner and Cindy Paquet of Essex won the Legend division.

Green Mountain National Golf Course will host the VSWGA State Amateur Championship next year.
