Local playwright’s work “Censored” to be presented by Rutland’s Encore Theatre for three nights

March 10-12 — RUTLAND — Encore Theatre will present “Censored” by Tanner Heath in the theater at Rutland High School on March 10, 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. Tanner Heath is a Rutland High School senior whose play “Escalator” was chosen to be a part of the International Thespian Playworks at the national festival in Lincoln, Neb. this past summer.

“Censored” is his look at plays and stories that have been censored over the years in high schools. He researched the play by communicating with directors from all over the United States through the Educational Theatre Association’s community. The play is set on a college campus where a group of performers have gathered in an abandoned theater to perform a play which addresses censorship and the results of leaving out what some would like to censor. The play is performed by an ensemble of nine students who play a variety of parts from stories and plays which have been censored. A discussion will follow the performance which will include a discussion of censorship as well as the play itself. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Rutland High School is located at 22 Stratton Road, Rutland.
