Mt. Independence hosts workshop in medicinal remedies

Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m.—ORWELL—Learn about making topical herbal remedies with Julie Mitchell, clinical herbalist, at the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell on Saturday, Aug. 27, from 1-3 p.m.
Julie Mitchell is a gardener, educator, and clinical herbalist. In this workshop participants will spend the first hour on an herb walk to learn about the practical uses of common weeds and plants. In the second hour the group will reconvene at the museum building to discuss and learn how to make topical salves, including with locally harvested herbs or other plants, and discuss appropriate use of these herbal remedies. The salves as well as how-to recipes, may be taken home.
Pre-register by calling Mount Independence at 802-948-2000. The fee is $20, including admission to the historic site; $15 for Mount Independence Coalition members. Limited to 25 attendees.
Mount Independence, a National Historic Landmark for its significance in the American Revolution, is located at 497 Mount Independence Road in Orwell, six miles due west from the intersection of Vermont routes 22A and 73. Where Route 73 bends north, continue straight ahead.
