Obit: Remembering Dave Pfannenstein

By Editor Emeritus Royal Barnard

I am so sad to report the passing of Dave Pfannenstein, my friend, a friend of the Mountain Times and one of the most wonderful people many of us have had the privilege to know. Dave Pfannenstein recently retired as the executive director of the Vermont Golf Association and moved permanently to Florida.

Pfannenstein was elected to PGA membership in April of 1990 after having compled the PGA training and apprentice program. He subsequently served as head professional at Tater Hill Golf Club in Chester, Vermont; Crown Point CC in Springfield, Vermont, and for a decade or more he was the head professional at Killington Golf Resort.

Dave Pfannenstein made a wealth of contributions to the world of golf as a terrific player, teacher and administrator. He was a powerful supporter of all those interested in and working at golf. He was universally recognized by his peers for his ambitious achievements. He was highly decorated in his trade by the Professional Golf Association of America.

Pfannenstein was admired and made a difference wherever he went. Most importantly, he was just a wonderful man. He was smart, kind, supportive, energetic, creative, and totally unassuming. One could not help but love him. He will be greatly missed.  We wish love, prayers and comfort to his wonderful and loving wife Shari and family.

  1. Dave was a super guy and I am very sad to hear of his death. Always enjoyed playing with Dave in Pro Ams and many events at Tater Hill. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

  2. Kath and I met Dave and Shari when we joined Crown Point GC in the late 1980s, and enjoyed Dave’s expertise as a teacher. We also saw him at Killington, and were desperately sad to hear of his passing. Our thoughts are with Shari.

  3. Our sympathy and prayers go out to Dave’s wife Shari and mother and dad, Joan and Chuck, We never had an occasion to meet Dave and Shari, which turns out to be our loss. I heard of Dave’s work and love of the game of golf. More importantly, he must have been a great person to know. Our hearts go out to all.

  4. I am very sorry to have heard of Dave’s passing. I did not know him in his personal life but he was exceedingly friendly and professional when I had the opportunity to see and speak with him at VGA tournaments.

  5. My heart goes out to Shari, and especially parents, Chuck and Joan…Dave was a wonderful nephew, a very kind person, and a joy to be around….Unfortunately, because of distances, we did not get enough time to spend with them, Blessings on you in your time of grief…..Uncle Lloyd and Aunt Ruth
