Pie bakers invited to participate in contest at Fair Haven Apple Festival

Saturday, Sept. 20 — FAIR HAVEN — The Fair Haven Historical Society is preparing for the 6th Annual Apple Pie contest to be held at the Apple Festival on Saturday, Sept. 20. This year, there is only one category, and all ages may enter.

The pie competition is for amateurs. Pies will be judged on appearance, texture and taste for first, second and third place ribbons.

In place of the student category, we are having an apple decorating contest for students up to age 12. The apples will be judged by the public for best in show. Entry time is 9-10 a.m.

Rules:

All pies must be entered by 11 a.m.; judging will be at 12 p.m. Disposable tins or tins that do not have to be returned are encouraged. Pies must be wrapped in a clear plastic wrap, to keep the bees away and for sanitary reasons. Pies must be at least 8 inches in diameter. Other fruits may be used, but the majority of the pie must be apples. Pies become the property of the society and will be sold after the judging.
