Police ramp up enforcement through Labor Day

The Rutland County Sheriff and other agencies in Rutland and Windsor counties will be participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign from Aug. 21 through Sept. 7 (Labor Day).

Drivers will see more law enforcement presence on the roadways during this time. Sobriety checkpoints will also be conducted to make sure drivers are being responsible on the roadways.

Police remind drivers:

Don’t drink alcohol or use drugs while driving

Slow down – drive the speed limit

Put your cell phones away (you are not allowed to even touch your phone while driving in Vermont)

Wear your seat belt

“Driving is a full time job and you should not be multi-tasking,” state police said in a news statement Aug. 6 asking that drivers help police in the effort to “keep the roads safe for everyone.”
