Preston’s Bar:  The quintessential ski bar

Daily Bread by Rick Daily

Location: Downstairs in Killington’s Grand Hotel

Favorite dish of the night?

Artisan cheese board. It’s a surprising amount that kept six people snacking at the bar for half an hour. Honey comb and soft almonds are a nice addition to three local cheeses and our Long Trail mash crackers finish nicely.

What’s the scene?

An eclectic mix of hotel guests, mountain employees and area residents all here for winter fun.  Preston’s Bar is jamming seven nights a week. It is the quintessential travelogue ski bar.

Who did you meet there?

Dave Dixon, off from The Garlic, entertaining two others. Merisa Sherman (local real estate agent and fellow columnist for the Mountain Times) dining with family, Ken Kierstein (Killington Ambassador) with friends and family, and I was with my doctor and four area bartenders.

Best time to go?

Early or late for no wait.

Local tips?

If you want a lively meal eat up front or at the bar; for quiet conversation eat in the back.
