Rabbi Hoffman, scholar-in-residence, gives lecture series

Friday, Aug. 15-Sunday, Aug. 17 — WOODSTOCK — Congregation Shir Shalom in Woodstock will host Rabbi Lawrence A. Hoffman, PhD., a charismatic national leader and visionary of the Reform movement.

The weekend begins on Friday, Aug. 15 at 6 p.m., when Dr. Hoffman will lead a discussion entitled, “Builders, Baby-Boomers and Beyond: Looking for the American Jewish Identity.”

Saturday, Aug. 16, begins with a morning session at 11 a.m., entitled, “Authentic Jewish Spirituality: Even for Skeptics Who Think There Isn’t Any.” An afternoon session begins at 1:30 p.m., entitled, “Judaism for the Next Generation: What’s Left of Judaism When All the Givens Fail?”

On Sunday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m., a “Brunch and Learn” will conclude the sessions. The topic will be, “Envisioning a Synagogue of Meaning: Shir Shalom 2030.”

Rabbi Hoffman is a world-renowned liturgist, award-winning author, and co-founder of Synagogue 2000/3000. His sense of humor lightens serious topics that probe how we can find meaning in our lives today.All events are free, and open to the public. For more info visit www.shirshalomvt.org.
