Red Knights are recruiting riders for “Ray’s Ride”

Saturday, Aug. 30 — KILLINGTON/VERGENNES — Members of the Red Knights International Firefighters Motorcycle Club are inviting the public to join them for “Ray’s Ride,” a motorcycle ride in remembrance of the late Ray Davison, who was active in state and regional firefighting circles. Join Red Knights Vermont IV on Saturday, Aug. 30, for a ride of a little over two hours. Participants will meet at the Killington Fire Department that morning and depart at 10 a.m. They will ride to the Ferrisburgh fire station on Route 7, where there will be a barbecue. The ride will take place rain or shine. The cost to take part is $25 per bike, $10 per passenger. Participants will get a commemorative pin. Proceeds of the ride will benefit the Addison County Firefighters Association Scholarship Fund. Advance registration is closed, but those who want to take part should show up at the Killington Fire Station around 9 a.m. on the day of the ride to register.

Ray Davison, who died Dec. 24, 2004, at age 74, served the city of Vergennes as first deputy chief. Engine 318 of the Vergennes Fire Department was dedicated to him in 1995 in recognition of four decades of leadership and training in the department. He served the State of Vermont Fire Service Training Council as a state fire training instructor and taught fire classes throughout the state, New England and Canada. He was a life member of the department, the Addison County Firefighters Association and the Vermont State Firefighters Association. Organizers are hoping for 50-100 participants in the ride.
