Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m.—POULTNEY—Author and educator Richard Heinberg will make a public presentation Thursday, Sept. 15 from 7:30-9 p.m. in Green Mountain College’s Ackley Hall. The event is free and open to the public. His talk, “The Case for Resilience,” explores community resilience as a key strategy for responding to the 21st century’s sustainability crises. This presentation will begin with an update on major global trends including climate, energy, food, water, population, and debt, showing their linkages in terms of reinforcing or balancing feedbacks. Heinberg will share some key lessons from the field of socio-ecological resilience and examples of how communities are already working to building resilience.
Heinberg is a senior fellow of the Post Carbon Institute, a non-profit think tank that connects individuals and communities with the resources needed to respond to the ecological, economic, energy, and equity crises of the 21st century.
As the visiting scholar for three of Green Mountain College’s online graduate studies programs including the Sustainable MBA, the master of science in environmental studies (MSES), and the master of science in resilient and sustainable communities (MRSC), Heinberg will be in residence from Sept. 14-16 in Poultney for a series of lectures, discussions and informal conversations.
