Sunday, June 12 at 4 p.m. — ROCHESTER — Now in its 22nd year, the Rochester Chamber Music Society will open the season with cellist Peter Stumpf on Sunday, June 12 at 4 p.m. in the Federated Church of Rochester. Known to many in our area as a long time member of the Johannes Quartet and the Weiss-Kaplan-Stumpf Trio, Peter drew a wide audience and played to a packed, enthusiastic audience last June. The Sunday program will include “Bach Suite No. 3” in C major and “Suite No. 4” in E-flat major, and “Kodaly’s Sonata, Op.8.”

Peter Stumpf is professor of cello at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Prior to his appointment, he was the principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for nine years following a 12-year tenure as associate principal cellist of the Philadelphia Orchestra. At the age of 16, he began his professional career, winning a position in the cello section of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra.
