Rotary celebrates VT/NH “opening” with Stayin’ Alive Disco Gala to benefit local restaurants

Saturday, June 6 at 7:30 p.m.—Rotary Clubs in both southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire have busy the past few months since the pandemic struck with projects to help food pantries and those in need, so the anticipated announcement by Governors in both states that each state may “open” more so at the end of May has resulted in plans to celebrate.

Titled the “Stayin’ Alive Disco Gala,” the seventy-five-minute Zoom celebration can be streamed on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. It will feature a return to the 70’s. Sponsored by the sixty Rotary Clubs that comprise District 7870, admission to the gala event is open to all citizens.

A minimum $20 donation gains entry to the program, which includes the New Hampshire band, “Best Not Broken” doing their grooviest tunes.  Monies raised will go to restaurants in those communities in which participating Rotary Clubs are located and used for restaurant gift certificates to be given to health care professionals, first responders, and others who helped their communities to weather the coronavirus pandemic.

“I am excited about this opportunity for the Rotarians in District 7870 to show our thanks and appreciation to the front-line workers in our communities – true heroes, in our eyes!” said Nancy Russell, Rotary District 7870 Governor, and a Past President of the White River Junction Rotary Club.

Meanwhile, Steve Puderbaugh, incoming District Governor on July 1, and a past president of the Raymond NH Rotary Club, expressed his similar positive feelings. “We’re delighted to be putting together a fun event to celebrate both states emerging from ‘seclusion.’  We also want to highlight the great things that Rotarians have been doing to support their communities during this crazy time.”

To join the festivities and to donate, go to the Rotary Gala website at 7870gala.com and click “Join Us.” There, one will find their favorite local Rotary club and keep their donation close to home. Upon receipt of the donation, contributors will receive acknowledgement, as well as simple instructions on how to access the June 6 “Stayin’ Alive Disco Party” Zoom site, including a password.  The Gala begins at 7:30 p.m. and ends at 8:45 p.m.

Rotary International is a 4-Star rated nonprofit and one of Charity Navigator’s top ten nonprofits for 2020. District 7870 includes sixty Rotary Clubs in the southern halves of both Vermont and New Hampshire that proudly embrace the Rotary’s “Service Above Self” motto.
