Rutland Rec offers plethora of summer activities

RUTLAND — The Rutland Recreation and Parks Department is offering programs of all types, to all ages during the summer.

Seven-to-Sunset concerts in Main Street Park

Join them in Main Street Park on Wednesday, July 6 for the popular local band, Satin and Steel. Satin and Steel is a 10-piece horn band based in Rutland. With roots dating from the early 1970s, Satin and Steel knows how to put on a great show. They specialize in classic rock, funk, and R&B. The band has the ability to and talent to cover almost any musical style in a professional manner.

Art camps

Hands On Minds On Art Studio will be offering several art camps coming up soon! First camp is in acrylic flower painting—O’Keeffe, Picasso, Monet and you! Enjoy this unique evening workshop of painted acrylic still life flowers. Throughout the workshop participants will view examples of different painting styles, discuss the various styles and be thoughtfully instructed through composing a beautiful still-life. Camp is open to those age 10 and older and runs July 5-8 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Courcelle Building. Fee to participate is $48 for city residents and $59 for non-residents.

Take Me to Your Masters art camp takes place July 11-15. Campers will discover the master artists like Van Gogh, Matisse, O’Keeffe, Picasso and Pollock using a variety of art materials including paints, pastels, papers, doughs, and printmaking, plus a 3D construction. The camp is open to those entering grades three through five and will run from 9 am. to 3 p.m. The fee is $128 for city residents and $139 for non-residents. A $10 late registration fee will be added after July 1.

Jazzercise for juniors

Kids get to work out with beat-pumping music, easy-to-follow dance moves and interactive fitness games designed just for them. Campers will build balance, strength, agility and fitness in this high-energy dance party while working out to a variety of music mixes. Camp runs on Saturdays, July 9 to Aug. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The fee for all six weeks is $45 for city residents and $56 for non-residents.

Girls’ basketball camp

Girls entering grades four through eight will foster great habits in a competitive but positive learning environment where they will learn the fundamentals, team play and sportsmanship. In addition we want them to learn leadership, responsibility and the value of hard work. Join RHS Girls’ coach Nathan Bellomo on July 11-15 from 9 a.m. to noon. The fee to participate is $68 for city residents and $79 for non-residents. A $10 late registration fee will be added after July 1.

Flipside Skate Park

The second session of skateboard camp runs July 11-15 for ages 6-15. Whether just learning how to skateboard or already riding the ramp, join to improve your skills. Campers will learn new techniques and tricks on ramps, rails and jumps with one-on-one teaching time, group games, fun activities and a video analysis. The fee to participate is $83 for city residents and $94 for non-residents. A $10 late registration fee will be added after July 1.
