Rutland Youth Theatre travels with Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”

RUTLAND — Award-winning Rutland Youth Theatre presents “Romeo and Juliet” July 21 through Aug. 2 as a traveling troupe.

Produced by Saskia Hagen Groom and directed by Amberly Soto, this is Shakespeare’s famous tragedy about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. Today, the title characters are regarded as archetypal young lovers.

All shows are performed outdoors on greens and fields, with rain locations nearby. Bring a blanket or chair!

July 22, 6:30 p.m. at The Gables, Rutland

July 23, 7 p.m. at Orwell on the Green, Orwell

July 24, 7 p.m. at Godnick Adult Center, Rutland

July 25, 2 p.m. at Belmont Baptist Village on the Green, Belmont;  7 p.m. at Roger Clark Memorial Library, Pittsfield

July 26, 2 p.m. at Larson Homestead, 13 North Street, Middletown Springs

July 29, 7 p.m. “In the Beautiful Gardens” at The Lilac Inn, Brandon

July 30, 7 p.m. at Shrewsbury Community Meeting House, Shrewsbury

July 31, 7 p.m. at Sherburne Memorial Library, Killington

Aug. 1, 2 p.m. at Wallingford Recreation Field, Wallingford; 7 p.m. at West Rutland Recreation Field, West Rutland

Aug. 2, 2 p.m. “On The Bluff” at Giorgetti Park, Rutland.

This is a free event (donations accepted). All shows are open to the public. Each show will feature Rutland Youth Theatre’s famous bake sale with proceeds going to support RYT’s theatrical endeavors.
