May 20-21 — RUTLAND — Award-winning Rutland Youth Theatre presents Roald Dahl’s wonderful story of “James and the Giant Peach, Jr. – The Musical.”

Produced and directed by Saskia Hagen Groom, “James and the Giant Peach, Jr. – The Musical” features a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming story. This adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, which rolls into the ocean, launching a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way. Creative costuming and scenery abound, and the actors love playing the outlandish and larger-than-life human and insect characters.

Musical director is Eddie Wilkin and choreographer is Tegan Waite. Stage manager is Barb Lassen.

Show times are May 20 at 7 p.m. and May 21 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, 30 Center Street, Rutland. Tickets are $8 for children/seniors and $10 for adults and can be purchased at paramountvt.org.
