Slate Valley Trails invites community to get outside and get involved

Saturday, Feb. 1 at 8 a.m.—POULTNEY—Slate Valley Trails (SVT) will be hosting its winter board meeting this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Poultney Community Library, 205 Main St. in Poultney. Interested community members are welcome to attend and learn how they can become involved.

Other opportunities to get involved include joining one of their committees. The marketing, promotions and fundraising committee meets the 3rd Tuesday the month at 4:30 p.m. The events committee meets the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. The trails committee meets the second Monday of the month at 6 p.m., and is currently seeking volunteer trail crew members to help us maintain our growing trail system. Trail crew members would respond after any weather event and work with other stewards to clear brush and trees within their skill set.

Perhaps you would like to get active outside this winter? Celebrate Groundhog Day with a hike up Hardy’s Hill trail to the view overlooking Lake St. Catherine on Sunday, Feb. 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Will we see our shadows? This moderate, 4-5 mile hike will gain about 900 feet of elevation. Snowshoes or spikes may be needed. Trekking poles are optional. Please dress for the weather, and bring your own water or snacks. RSVP to info@slatevalleytrails.org or with the hike leaders, Gail and Chuck Helfer at 802-287-9190.

Updates will be posted to Facebook and at slatevalleytrails.org/events.
