Stained glass workshop offers hands-on experience

A stained glass tree hangs in a window, seeming to blend in with nature behind it.

Sunday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m.–BRANDON–From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, stained glass artist Karen Deets will lead an adult workshop in stained glass. In one session participants will learn the basic techniques of stained glass, learning glass cutting, foiling and soldering. The completed piece will be a free-form, copper-foiled tree with assorted leaf colors and a bird on top.

With over four decades of experience in stained glass design and fabrication, Deets has made many residential custom pieces. She is currently on staff at Community College of Vermont teaching Stained Glass I. As a member of the Vermont Glass Guild, her work has been shown recently at the AVA Gallery in N.H. and the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, Vt. Deets is now an active member of the Brandon Artists Guild; last year her work was featured at the BAG in “Art of the Flag.”

The workshop will take place at the Granary, 29 Union St., Brandon (across from the grain elevator). Please wear closed-toe shoes. Bring a bag lunch and beverage. Class size is limited to 8. Cost is $60.

This year, instead of creating works of art for our art education fundraiser, BAG offers art classes so others can experience the joy of creating. Donations will be made to nine area schools.

To register, contact the Brandon Artists Guild at 802-247-4956 or brandonartistsguild.org. For questions, contact Karen at deetsvt@gmail.com.
