Statement from Phil Scott on primary win

I’m thankful to all the Republicans, Democrats and independents who supported me in today’s primary election. The confidence you’ve placed in me during these incredibly unique and challenging times is an honor.

My reasons for serving haven’t changed since I first decided to run for governor. I love Vermont and I believe, with leadership that listens, it can be an even better place to live, raise a family and grow a business. I ran for governor four years ago because I knew we could do more to help people. I knew we needed someone to focus like a laser on  growing the economy, making Vermont more affordable, protecting the most vulnerable, and restoring civility and decency to our politics by running campaigns — and governing — in ways that are positive examples for our kids.

Admittedly, this year has changed almost everything about our lives — but for me, these principles remain.

As a state, and as a nation, we’re facing a once-in-a-century public health emergency and the economic crisis it’s created.

Unfortunately, these challenges won’t go away overnight, and we’ll be dealing with them in the months to come.  In fact, even after there is a vaccine or other treatment, it may take years of disciplined work to help our economy and our communities fully recover.

Throughout these last few months, I’ve tracked the data closely, listened to the experts and followed the science.

Every decision I’ve made has been in the best interest of our health, our safety and our economic future. And I’m so proud of how Vermonters have stepped up to support our neighbors and communities — and as a result, our state has been an example for others across the nation. But we can’t let up now. We have to see this through to the end.

Moving forward, I’ll do my very best to provide you with a steady hand on the wheel as we navigate these unprecedented times and work tirelessly to emerge stronger as a state.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Phil
