Take a guided road trip on a historic military road

Saturday, Aug. 22 at 9:30 a.m. — ORWELL — On Saturday, Aug. 22 starting at 9:30 a.m., participate in a guided driving tour along part of the 1776-1777 Mount Independence-Hubbardton Military Road. Jim Rowe, president of the Crown Point Road Association, will be your guide. Rowe has a lifelong interest in this Revolutionary War military road. This is the fourth year of exploring sections of this road by auto.

Meet at the museum of the Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, for orientation. Participants will be driving their own vehicles. The tour will end at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in Hubbardton.

The tour is $5 for adults and free for children under 15, and includes admission to Mount Independence and the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Sites.

Mount Independence is located on Mount Independence Road, six miles west of the intersections of VT Routes 22A and 73 near Orwell village. Carefully follow the signs. The Hubbardton Battlefield is located at 5696 Monument Hill Road, Hubbardton.
