Thanking local organizations for supporting BRSU

Dear Editor,

On behalf of the Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union (BRSU) I would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to some of the organizations that have offered support to our students and families throughout the 2016-2017 school year.

Casella Waste Management has continually offered unwavering support to students and families particularly with the Community Clean Up project in the Danby and Mt. Tabor communities. Casella’s customer service and professionalism is second to none. This organization is impacting lives locally, state-wide, and throughout the Northeast.

Executive Director Tammy Mosher and the Stratton Foundation are the model for excellence in community service. This organization has given back to our communities in a plethora of generous acts. Most notably they have kick started a Backpack Program at Currier Memorial School, which provides students with a bag of nutritious food to bring home on the weekend. The communication and attention to detail  make this organization first class, but the care they give with class makes them truly great.

Executive Director Tom Donahue and BROC- Community Action in Southwestern Vermont have been an invaluable resource to the BRSU; whether it is food, housing assistance, or fuel assistance, this organization is there. If they do not have the resources, they are willingly searching for or providing contact information for the organization that does. They truly put their clients first and the communities they serve are fortunate to have access to their services. The sincerity and care they provide greatly impacts each person who walks through their doors and that speaks volumes to the character and class BROC exudes day in and day out.

Thank you for all of the acts of kindness shown to students and families of the BRSU this year. Your hard work and selflessness does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.

Billy Canfield, home-school coordinator, Bennington-Rutland SU
