RUTLAND—BROC Community Action collected over 800 pounds of food in the first annual Stuff-A-Ruck event held in Rutland, Friday, July 17.
Departing from the recruitment office at 10 a.m. the Vermont Army National Guard carried donated food in their rucksacks to BROC.
“If there are two things the Vermont Army National Guard loves, they are helping our communities and physical fitness. We’ve decided to combine the two by holding a food drive in support of BROC Community Action!” the Vermont Army National Guide stated.
Community members were encouraged to bring non-perishable foods to the recruitment office at 217 Woodstock Ave. in Rutland.
“What a great community and effort by the Vermont Army National Guard,” said Tom Donahue, CEO of BROC Community Action, after the event. “When they arrived we had our PA system playing the theme song to ‘Rocky,’” he added.
The food was quarantined over the weekend and will be ready to provide to people in need starting Wednesday, July 22.
