Drumming and percussion have played an important role in human culture for a very long time.  The ceremonial use of the drum by the many native cultures across the globe developed completely independently and was seen to produce a profound effect upon consciousness and spirituality. Today’s science has shown that drumming can have some beneficial uses to enhance physical, mental and emotional health. Drumming is particularly effective in producing a highly focused attentive state and a number of studies have shown that listening to the beat of a drum causes the brain to slow down into a relaxed state.

Marla Leigh Goldstein is an internationally recognized teacher and performer who has presented throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. A Los Angeles based professional percussionist, flautist, composer and educator, Goldstein is one of the very few female leading specialists in the ancient Mediterranean frame drum, which she will be teaching for the first time in Vermont. Goldstein carries the gift of being an inspiring and energetic educator, and soulful, charismatic performer. It is truly wonderful to have her offering this weekend in Vermont at the height of foliage season.

As a composer, Goldstein writes dynamic cross-cultural world music scores for film, TV and healing arts DVDs and is currently working on her debut CD. She is also the creator/CEO of an online percussion academy, the Frame Drum Academy, where she teaches students worldwide how to drum; as well, she has her own signature series line of frame drums with the Cooperman Drum Company who will also be on site for this exciting weekend.
